New Year, New DACIS
Dear DACIS Subscribers,
The beginning of a New Year is the perfect time to announce a new beginning for DACIS.
Beginning the day after tomorrow (Wednesday), the DACIS website will have a new look and feel. You'll notice that everything is in its place, and is doing what it has always done. But the service will rest on a modern technological foundation—a foundation which will improve the site's performance, security, maintainability, and yes, its longevity. As InfoBase puts its silver anniversary behind us, I'm confident that our new architecture will be the right package to carry us through the 25 years to come. I'm particularly excited about how easy it will become to add new features and visualization tools to our site.
With that said, DACIS is a vast service. And so our redesign, at launch, will be a hybrid affair. If most of the modules will seem to look and work exactly as they did before, it'll be because they haven't changed—yet. The modules which have changed are Companies and Cost Centers. These, you will see, will sport a new dynamic search engine, with some other touches (like sortable columns) which we think you're going to like. Those who use our site on mobile devices will be interested in how these pages scale gracefully from a computer screen's width to a cell phone display's width.
Even with Companies and Cost Centers, everything will be pretty much in its customary place, and doing what it did before. The goal with this change is evolution, not revolution. It's a watchword which will continue to guide us as our other modules, one by one, are brought fully into line under our new architecture. (FPDS Pro, Customers, and Contracts are on the short list.)
We believe that these changes should be intuitive. If they remind you of other sites you've been on, then we've done our job right. But to be on the safe side we've scheduled a webinar on Wednesday at 11:00AM, Eastern Time. If you have any questions about how the site will work… how the migration will affect your use of it… this is the venue to get your questions answered.
And if you can't make it, no worries—a recording of the session will be available for playback later.
I'll be doing much of the presentation. The redoubtable Bill Burton will be emceeing and keeping me between the lines.
Happy New Year!
Best regards,

Stuart McCutchan
